Client – Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC’s facility in Lincoln, Alabama has the capacity to build more than 300,000 Odyssey minivans, Honda Pilot sport utility vehicles, and V-6 engines annually. This facility is Honda's largest light truck production source.
KUMI Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC is a division of the Japanese company KUMI Kasei Co, Ltd., a manufacturer and distributor of resin and rubber products for automobiles, OA devices and computer equipment. KUMI has a total of six subsidiaries in Asia and North America that distribute its world-class core technology on a global scale.
Problem – Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC hired RPR to reduce the cost and number of containers needed to store and ship two similar automotive parts made by KUMI Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC. The company was using 960 plastic corrugated modified side load containers to store ten parts per unit.
RPR Solution – RPR provided a “smarter” solution for Honda by reducing the number of containers to 320, tripling the container density, and changing to top load containers with textile dunnage. The result - 30 parts per unit. This solution also eliminated the need for side load container repairs.
This customized solution saved Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC three trucks per day in transportation costs, two-thirds of the handling of containers, and manufacturing line space. It also saved floor space at the plastics company.
